Castle Books is a family run bookshop that has operated in Castlebar for over 30 years.
We expanded to a main street location in 2022. In the former studio of 19th century photographer Thomas Whynne, Castle Books’ lower floor is a traditional bookshop, upstairs we have a wall of wool, as wool was traditionally sold in bookshops, and a café. The walls are often decorated with the work of local artists, as well as prints of Whynne’s work. A bright and airy space that holds the charm of its history, it’s a favourite of local writers and readers alike.
Mayo Books Press was born from the Brennan family’s experience running Castle Books.
